ADAM MELLOR
Adam has been painting and dancing for the past 30 years, and those early years have made a lasting impression that he continues to draw upon. He cut his teeth painting backdrops for clubs including Sundissenial, The Opera House and The Manor throughout a period in the 1990s and his current work brings these elements together, with a focus on the dance floor and paraphernalia of the UK rave scene.
Drawing on and inspired by the DIY culture of the time - Adam reimagines and reconstructs rave flyers with a painterly aesthetic maintaining a deep appreciation of the original designs while leaning into his classical fine art training. His reimaginings contain all the key ingredients and attitudes of those intoxicating and unifying times - with a dash of cross-culture referencing.
Alongside the above Adam paints large-scale oils that draw directly from the 1990s rave scene with a focus on the people, to capture the drama and rapture of the dance floor.
He has recently collaborated with Chip to bring a 3D element to create fun-inspired one-off frames that connect to the DIY culture.
